My Heart Was Pounding...

This story was written by Kayla. It has been conferenced by the teacher at conferencing time but not fixed up since then. Please leave any feedback about what you like or think I can improve.

My heart was pounding, I was gasping for breath… Suddenly something that seemed like a lighting bolt flew past me I didn’t know what it was then it turned and looked at me. I asked, “Where are you going”? She announced, “To get the last candy pop down the road” “What”? I shouted, “I’m going there too”! We both looked at each other in anger soon we were sprinting down the road, 10 minutes later we made it. We both gasped… The candy pop was gone! Soon I looked at her “I remember you now, you’re my old next door neighbour”! I gasped “Yes I am” she said back. We talked and talked until it was time to go home “Bye” I mentioned. “Bye” she answered back. We both went down a sperate road and we met the next day to play.

                     Alex!!!
Last year Alex and I met by playing in the sand pit everyday until I asked him “can you help me with my giant hole” and Alex shouted yes! Soon we stated the giant hole and then I remembered we were in the same class. Suddenly the bell rang so we talked about Minecraft walking back to class .Minecraft is a world out of blocks. We need each other to talk about Minecraft and to build cars out of sand for fun. We also need each other for building houses on Minecraft by him I got an idea to have a crossbow war on Minecraft He is important  so he can tell me updates ,how to get stuff and how to build stuff on  minecraft He is also important So I have a friend when I am older. Alex looks really cool. He has hair brown hair and likes to be called mini man because he thinks it sounds cool I feel really relaxed when we play together.

THE EGG CHALLENGE

As part of a unit called Keeping Ourselves Safe, room 15 were all responsible for looking after one egg. The egg was not boiled and involved a great deal of care. Children were responsible for the egg for four days and fortunately there were only a few casualties.

At the end of our challenge we reflected on some of the key things we learned through this challenge.

*You only get one egg and it can break easily.
*Be careful who you trust with your egg.
*Eggs can't be left alone in the playground/on the kitchen bench/in the classroom.
*Looking after our egg takes more time and effort then we thought.
*If you behave carelessly your egg can break.
*If you can't watch your egg you have to find somebody else to.
*You need to know where your egg is and if it is safe at all times.

We then discussed how they impact on our day-to-day lives. Can you think of how these messages can be transfered to your daily life? Please leave us comments as we would be interested to see if you came up with the same ideas we did.

HOW DO WE WANT TO LEARN? MATHS GRAPHS

As part of mathematics we have been learning to gather and collate data to display as a graph using Excel. We spent a lot of time discussing which style of graph best displayed our information. A lot of us learned to use Excel for the first time We asked children in the class questions based on our learning. Ms Kerr reminded us it is important to check our work makes sense before we have it ready for the blog. We would love comments and suggestions about whether you think our graphs clearly display the information and also whether you think our work was ready for the blog.

Here are the graphs that were finished today:

Today we talked about safety on the internet because it was, 'Safer Internet Day'. As part of our learning we made avatars to use for our blog. Avatars keep us safe because they give us an online identity without showing who we are. Below is the activity we did, why avatars are important and some of the finished avatars. Please leave a comment and tell us what you think.

WALT: to create an avatar for our blog and to use when leaving comments, participating online with web tools such as Voice Thread. It is your online identity instead of using photographs of yourself.

Why should you have your own avatar?

Avatars are a representation of yourself.
1. Your avatar helps people to remember you.  The combination of your name + original avatar is a unique and safe way to recognise people online!
2. Your avatar helps you to keep a certain amount of privacy about your identity online.

Welcome Back!

I am very excited to meet all the wonderful children who will be in Room 15 for 2013. During the last week I have been setting up the classroom, working with the other teachers and getting things ready for your arrival on Monday.

Some of you may remember me from 2011 when I taught at St Clair but some of you may not. During 2012 I travelled around Europe and had an amazing time. The experience was life-changing for me and I have learnt many things I plan on sharing with you. Since I have been away for a year I am relying on all of you to bring me up to speed with the happenings at our school.

2013 is going to be an exciting year filled with many wonderful opportunities for you in the senior school.

I look forward to meeting you all and learning with you on Monday.

Ms Kerr
